Just joined Nat'l Institute of Building Sciences

StorefrontCrashes.com just became a member of the National Institute of Building Sciences (NIBS). Established by the U.S. Congress in 1974, the Institute exists to "serve the Nation by supporting advances in building science and technology to improve the built environment."

NIBS runs a program called the Whole Building Design Guide (WBDG), which it describes as "the only web-based portal providing government and industry practitioners with one-stop access to up-to-date information on a wide range of building-related guidance, criteria and technology from a 'whole buildings' perspective."

I was guided to the WBDG by Charles Oakes, PhD, a researcher for Blue Ember Technologies, LLC (which owns MaxiForce Traffic Control Bollards). Dr. Oakes authored WBDG's online resource page about bollards—just updated in July 2010.

More on my conversation with Dr. Oakes in the near future, but my thanks to him here for pointing me toward this organization. NIBS and the WBDG will likely figure large as information sources as well as outreach aids.
